It’s snowing in comic-strip land

I’ve decided that my eye doctor’s building is the coolest one in the city.  It looks like it belongs on the beach…it’s got huge glass windows and high ceilings and it’s just neat.  And it’s a good thing I enjoy it, because in about two hours, I’m off for my second appointment in as many days.

So where have I been since I last updated?  Around.  I’ve been doing my cathartic writing in TOD, which is a catch-all for ideas instead of just a diary.  Now don’t get me wrong; I’ve been thinking about updating So There for months.  I just haven’t moved on that thought until today.

So why today?  Well, it’s exams again, and if you know me, you know that I always update profusely during exams.  I didn’t have one yesterday, don’t have one today, and really should be studying for the three I do have, starting with Stat tomorrow.  Instead, I’m going to take some time out of my busy schedule to…do this.

But the biggest reason for this update is that, tragic as it is, my cable modem’s down.  We’re doing construction, which is loud and annoying, and they cut my cable.  I could cry.  We’re trying to get it fixed within a few hours (dad’s going stir crazy, too), but there’s no promises.  Which means, of course, it could be days before you see this live.

Does anyone even read this anymore?  The bulk of the emails I’ve been getting are for some UO shard that apparently shares a name with my site. Whatever.  I’ll keep writing until everyone I know tells me to stop.  I’m stubborn that way.

So what’s been up?  Lots of shit.  I haven’t updated since before the musical…October 24, I think.  (Remember -  I can’t check because I can’t get to the Internet.  Waaaah.)  Since then, we’ve had the play, Thanksgiving, Pageant, swimming, Brunch, Christmas, my birthday, and exams.  Well, there’s more to it than that, but those are the big points.  In brief:

The play was fun.  Not as cool as Dolly, but fun nonetheless.  The cast party at Carolyn’s was a blast too…singing and dancing and eating really good popcorn.  What could be better?

Thanksgiving was anticlimactic, as these things tend to be.  All I really remember was having an English paper due the day after we got back.  Bad idea, yes.

Pageant was fine, except that I got screwed.  Seniors always have parts – angels, kings, etc – and for some reason, Fate decided to drop-kick me behind the scenery because I was playing flute for two songs.  If I’d known this, I’d’ve not agreed.  If anyone had made any effort to fix things, they could’ve been fixed.  But whatever…it’s in the past.  I’m going to be pissed about it forever, because that’s the way I am, but it’s done.

Swimming’s been fine…I miss David, don’t feel totally motivated, and would rather just go to sleep than go to practice.  Fine.  It’ll be over at the end of February.

Brunch was Brunch.  I mean, I’ve never been a particularly huge fan of Brunch, and I’m glad that I never have to see another one again.  This year, the theme was ‘Willy Wonka,’ and I knew months in advance, and I didn’t care, and Scooby Doo was way better, no matter how much the Juniors will disagree.  That being said, I got a cool hat just for being a Senior girl.  Sweet.

Christmas break was wonderful.  I spent most of my time with people not from school – Christine, Stine, Devon, Andrew, Aaron, Alex, Gentry, Elissa (who is from school, but…), Trip, Rob, N ed, and even Jeff, who I saw a full one time.  Gentry, Aaron, Andrew and I went out to explore the James River Gorge a few days after Christmas…I hung out at Rob’s while he and Ned and Jeff played guitar and we all sang (pure magic)…I saw Trip once, which was lovely, though less than I’d’ve liked……another round of urban caving…I went to the Team lockin at Peak on New Year’s Eve, even though I’m technically not Team (I’m just friends with everyone who is).  It was a blast…doing stupid stuff that we shouldn’t’ve been allowed to do, running amok in the gym, and setting routes.  Good times, great photos.

My birthday was also rather anticlimactic, I suppose.  I had a meet that night, and eight hours of high ropes training the next day, which was way more fun than the meet.  We did a rescue from the high course, which required cutting the rope that we were hanging from.  Now, I don’t know how many of you climb, but cutting a rope, no matter what kind of a safety system you’re on, is cause for serious alarm.  Of course, we were all perfectly safe, but it was alarming nonetheless.

I had a medium-sized gathering last Saturday that was mainly for Team/Passages folk, with the three Collegiate people that I see every day – Morgan, Carter and Kim.  This turned out to be an awkward mix for a variety of reasons, and I don’t think many people enjoyed themselves that much.  Still, Rob played guitar and mandolin, and Kitz and Gentry played bass, and I got to sing a little, so I can’t complain that much.  My parents were being unreasonable, as usual, and wouldn’t let me leave the house to maybe do something more interesting…but that’s fine, too, because I’ll be gone in eight months.  It’s about fucking time.

I should get going on those applications, too.  I’ve already sent off my Davidson one, and I’ve got seven more to send off tomorrow.  I should really get on those.  As should I get on my Senior Speech and studying for those silly exam-type things.  Right.

So this is a rather short update, I apologize, but I’ll be around more often, I think.  After Friday, I’m a second-semester senior, which means that I can justify slacking off all I want.

Well, maybe not all I want, but a good deal more than I’ve been doing.  (Which is saying a lot, because I’ve not done much at all.)
